Volcàn Ctopaxi
The Cotopaxi is located on the Eastern Cordillera, at
a distance of 35 km northeast of Latacunga and 45 km southeast of Quito. Its
building forms a symmetrical cone with slopes of up to 35 ° and a basal
diameter of 20 km, the Cotopaxi is surrounded by moors that border 3000 meters
above sea level and by other volcanoes such as Sincholahua (4873 msnm),
Quilindaña (4876 msnm) and Rumiñahui ( 4722 msnm).
The Cotopaxi
volcano is located in the Latacunga canton of Cotopaxi province, with an
elevation of 5897 msnm, it is the second highest volcano in
the country.
His name Cotopaxi
means Neck of the Moon.
There are several
attractions or natural resources that can be observed such as the Quishuar
Trail: On the route that allows you to enjoy several tourist attractions in the
area, especially crossing the pine forest.
The Cotopaxi
volcano has an exotic dry microclimate that allows its ascent during most of
the year. Starting from 4800 meters and in an approximate time of 6 to 8 hours,
you will be able to reach the foot of the impressive crater half a kilometer
wide and marvel at the spectacular view of the tops of most of the volcanoes in
Ecuador.
In its eastern
slopes there is a refuge, where tourists can enjoy the landscape of the valley
and the Limpiopungo lagoon, including wild ducks in their panorama. A permit
granted by the Cotopaxi National Park authorities is required for them to
ascend.
